Palestinian Center for Media, Research and Development

The Palestinian Center for Media, Research and Development was established in 2004 as a community media development center focused on public access, sharing experiences and information dissemination.

The PCMRD is an independent initiative that aims to stimulate debate, activities and exchanges on the core issues of democracy, human rights and active citizenship. The overall objective of the project is to increase the participation of young people and the overall community in civil society and public life in the southern region of the West Bank.

To achieve these aims and objectives, the centre uses media, Information Technology and networking as tools to reach local communities. These tools will work as catalysts and means to link Palestinians with their communities and representatives on one side, and with their international peers on the other. Through a variety of well-planned local training activities, community actions and international exchanges, the project will cover important subjects that Palestinian society urgently needs to address at this critical time. Of paramount importance is the democratic formation of the country, which must begin at the grassroots level.

For further information about our Media Center please check under Activities.

This year alone we have used our recent, highly advanced Media Center to achieve the following through our music education programs:

Closing ceremony for the Music project: in cooperation with the Governor of Hebron and with the support of the British Consulate. Graduation for 58 children who attended and completed a three-month intensive training course in music. The result of the activity was the creation of choral abilities and 25 children able to play a diverse range of musical instruments. The graduation was organized in the presence of the governor and several director generals of different ministries.

Rap music and youth: sponsored by the British consulate, training session lead by Shadia Mansour; a Palestinian rapper living in the UK. The workshop was attended by 15 teenagers, including joint signing with IPYL’s rap group “Black Revolution” and performances in different children’s summer camps in the old city of Hebron. Concluded with a public performance in the evening at the Municipality of Hebron where 400 people were present.
